Bird Watching Binoculars & Field Guides : Picking a Spotting Scope for Bird Watching

I see at the bottom of the page for Eagle Optics that they are sold by Wild Birds Unlimited, which has several locations in the Seattle area, so I think it is a safe bet you can get them south of the 49th.
I noticed that all of these scopes have an eye-piece that is at an angle to the direction of the scope tube. I use an actual table-top telescope to watch my back yard feeders which has an eye-piece at a full right angle. I find this to be the most difficult thing about using a scope; I have to look down the length of the tube to get it pointed in the right-ish direction, and then look down into the eye-piece.
Admittedly, a 45 degree angle will not be as bad, but you may find that if you're trying to spot an active bird, like a Jay or Chickadee, it will have moved out of range before you can get a look at it.

Hi all from the great green north for a few more months anyway. I am finally looking at buying my first birding scope. From my understanding the eagle optics name is also available for sale in the U.S.A.. See link for the model I am considering,in addition I do wear eyeglasses which is important in scope selection. Thankyou all for any observations on this scope.

Birding scopes come in price ranges from under 100 dollars to several thousands of dollars. The main reason for the wide disparity in prices is lens quality. If you compare the view through an inexpensive birding scope to the same view through a high end model the difference is immediately apparant. Even the inexpensive scope will bring a distant treeline much closer, however the view through the high end scope will not just show the trees but every little twig and leaf will stand out in vivid shape and color. This is due to lens quality.
High quality scope lens are gound to tight tolerences. This allows the details of a view to be seen clearly. High quality birding scope lenses are also coated with multi coats of various substances which greatly increase the amount of light which transfers through the lens. This allows all wavelengths of color to be transmitted to the users eye. A great example is the Starling, through an ordinary birding scope it is a black bird with white spots, through a quality birding scope it is transformed into a black bird that shimmers with irredescent colors along with its white spots!!
